As you guys know by now, I am a pretty practical gal, as much as I want my home to look nice, I NEED it to function well even more. Here are a few tips & tricks I have for making both happen:

  • When decorating a space, I always choose the big items first—such as your couch, rugs, dining table, and then add the smaller details to match, and these pieces are what make the biggest statement and tie all of the pieces in your home together. That being said…

  • You always want to make sure you’re purchasing the correct size furniture for your space, and I’m talking any room in your house! Everything from a couch too large for your living room, an area rug to small for your bedroom, or even a TV too large for a console table or the wall it’s mounted on. It all impacts the look and functionality of your home.

  • Keep things looking tidy with cute baskets, bins, and glasses for the little things. It keeps your counters, tables, and any surfaces looking neat which feels good and looks good! This will help you to keep similar things together and organized as well!

  • Pick functional items that look pretty too. Open shelving, cabinets, bookcases. These are all really great ways to display your items, but also might create some attractive storage where you may be lacking.

A few years ago, we fixed up this old dresser to use as our console table! It’s perfect for storing DVDS, craft supplies, diapers, and wipes in the drawers, will keeping it all organized and out of sight!

  • And last, but certainly not least: Everything needs to have a home or a place. This makes cleaning/picking up so.much.easier and faster! And if something doesn’t have a home, ask yourself if you need this item? Do you use it often? If so, create a home for it! If not, donate it or sell it.
