This weeks Feature Friday we would like to introduce you to Rachel! She is the owner and artist of IHANA Jewelry!

Tell us about yourself and how you started IHANA Jewelry!

My name is Rachel Lamson. My husband, Jim, and I have been married for 3 years and we have 2 kids, Rilyn age 7 and Leo age 2. I grew up in Lanse, MI, after high school I attended NMU and majored in graphic communications. It actually wasn’t until after art school that I found some basic silversmithing courses with a local silversmith. The courses totaled about 24 hours. From there I went straight into making jewelry and did my first pop up shop at a local coffee shop just 1 month after completing the classes!

How long have you been making jewelry?

I’ve been making jewelry for just about 7 years now.

What is your favorite piece to make?

This is a tough question! it’s always changing. Right now its probably my fern message lockets! They’re very fun and delicate!

Where do you get inspiration from?

Nature is a huge inspiration to me. From the dirt to the sky!

What are some of your goals and dreams?

One of my goals in jewelry making is to make a perfect, functional hinge. Another is to grow my business and online following so that I can hire a studio assistant, or two! I’d also love to make unique engagement and wedding rings. As for a dream, I’d love to hold a “make your own wedding band” workshop for engaged couples that are wanting to make their own wedding bands!

You have a brick and mortar, tell us the story of how you decided to open one up!

Well my husband has always owned a commercial building in downtown Baraga that housed a hair salon. The tenants were moving out and my husband called me up and asked if I wanted to open a store, Naturally, I said “NO!” haha! It was such a scary thought and I also didn’t ever see myself opening a shop in Baraga. After a lot of talking and prayer, it just seemed like a perfect fit and a great place to start out!

Where can people find you and your work?
