Hi, I’m Mari Helppi over here from Instagram @burlapandbookpages.  I am a Yooper mama to two beautiful blondies. I’m a middle school teacher turned SAHM with a passion for all things home-thrifting, crafting, home projects, DIYS, antiques, decorating, and styling. You can check out my instagram page @burlapandbookpages for more home inspo and to see my latest projects, but below I’d like to share with you five tips on how to transition from Christmas to winter decor. Thanks for inviting me over here today Bryana and Kendra!

Sometimes it feels like people are rushing to take down Christmas and other times a clean slate for the New Year sounds refreshing.  Finding a happy medium to keep that cozy glow and transition from Christmas to winter decor shouldn’t have to be complicated. Below I’m sharing five tips on how to seamlessly make that transition!

1. Say goodbye to the Christmas tree, but keep other natural elements

  • Display a bucket of birch logs, a simple wreath, or a basket of cedar

  • Make a unique statement by mounting a branch on your wall--add stockings at Christmas and snowflakes during the winter

2. Keep it cozy

  • Drape throw blankets on your couch, in a basket, or even on a hook

  • Add pillows with texture--maybe a velvet or sweater material, or DIY and add some tassels or pom poms to an existing pillow

3. Twinkle lights, always twinkle lights

  • That cozy glow never gets old and it’s too early to say goodbye, so gather some twinkle lights in a jar or drape them on a mantel, ledge, or ladder (or that branch you just hung on the wall!?)

  • Add twinkle lights in an unexpected place--perhaps your bedroom?

4. Use winter decor instead of Christmas from the start

  • Mount winter themed wrapping paper on top of a sign you already have

  • Opt for more neutrals rather than an overabundance of red whether that be ornaments, accent pillows, or berries in an arrangement--or simply take out some of the red now

5. Add warmth

  • Add brass candlesticks and a new basket (perhaps thrifted?!), gather tapered candles in a jar

  • Download a winter printable to put in a natural wood frame

6. Bonus Tip:  Refresh

  • I asked my husband what he thought about winter decor and he said working on a project inside--so choose something big or small. Maybe a fresh coat of paint, or that shiplap wall you’ve pinned countless times--or decluttering your kitchen cupboards and hauling a big ol box of donations out of the house, out of the trunk, and to that drop off door!
