Letting Go of Fear & Embracing Change

You know when you run into someone you haven’t seen in awhile and they ask “so what’s new with you?” And most of the time you respond casually with “not a whole lot!”  Or “not much!” But as of late, that couldn’t be further from the truth for me! Haha. There has been so many new things happening, from resigning from my corporate career, working on opening a clothing & home goods store with my wonderful friends, and becoming foster parents to two littles, two and under within the next week or so!

As an Enneagram 6, (if you know, you know) I typically operate with fear-based and worst case scenario thinking and planning, so stepping into this season that is full of change and uncertainty is kind of crazy for me, but I have so much peace because I feel like it’s exactly where God has called me to be.

If you’re feeling like there’s something pulling on your heart and always running through your mind, but you feel like it would be crazy, impossible, or you’re just downright scared to go for it, here are a few things that helped me finally take the plunge and let go of that fear.

  • Think and pray about your why. Why do you want to try this new thing or why don’t you want to. What is it that’s driving you toward it and what’s holding you back?

  • List the best and worst possible outcomes that could happen from staying put and then for going for it. This really puts it all into perspective—if the best thing is really worth it and the worst thing isn’t really that bad. (This will help you come up with a solution for the worst case scenario!)

  • Remember that with growth, there has to be change. And as uncomfy as change can feel, it’s simply just a growing pain, but it won’t last forever (or usually for long)! After awhile you’ll probably even be thinking, why did I wait so long?

Today, let’s choose to let go of the things that cause us to shrink back and ask the Lord to help us step into His calling for us, to fulfill His purposes for our lives! Who’s with us?! You’ll never know the amazing things you might be missing out on in life or about yourself, if you don’t just go for it! Whatever “it” might be for you!
